Must Have Travel Accessories You Can Buy With Online Survey Cash

without comments

I’m calling it: Summer is here. Technically, the summer solstice arrives on June 21st but I’ve never been good about waiting for things. Don’t even get me started on Christmas presents that I get before December 25th! Along with warm days, BBQ grilling and a general malaise summer also provides us with an opportunity to travel. Whether you’re going to make it a one of a kind road trip or a “get on a plane” trip I’ve dug up some must have travel accessories that you can buy with you iPoll survey cash. Some of these can be bought directly from SkyMall, the shopping catalog for flyers. Others have their own web entity. Are they practical? Will they improve the travel experience? Will some of them make you look like a bozo? Yes, yes and yes. Let’s get to shopping!

Getting to Know Doctors Without Borders

without comments

On paper, their mission is pretty simple: Go where help is needed. In practical terms, this means that Doctors Without Borders or Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) spread out across 60 countries to “provide assistance when catastrophic events such as armed conflict, epidemics, malnutrition or natural disasters overwhelm local health systems. MSF also assists people who face discrimination or neglect from their local health systems or when populations are otherwise excluded from health care.” Could there be a more noble charity organization? In fact, Doctors Without Borders was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999 which in and of itself is pretty noble. Spend a few moments getting to know Doctors Without Borders and you’ll see why they’re an iPoll charity that matters.

What Makes Fireworks Go Boom

without comments

Summer is upon us which means the 4th of July is right around the corner so get ready for the boom and to eat a lot of hot dogs. Let’s skip the hot dogs and talk fireworks. Most of us grew up with some kind of fireworks displays on the 4th whether that meant we watched them in person or on TV. Going out to a fireworks display in a park sets off a wild debate as to when you should “oooooo” and when you should “aaahhh.” I’ll answer that: “oooooo” is for the explosive noise and “aaahhh” is for the colorful spectacle. Now that we have that cleared up, let’s find out what makes fireworks go boom.

Getting to Know the American Red Cross

without comments

When disaster strikes you can bet good money that the Red Cross won’t be far behind. The American Red Cross was founded in 1881 by Clara Barton. Mrs. Barton was inspired by the International Red Cross she saw helping folks across the pond. The mission is simple: help those in need. That includes five key service areas which are disaster relief, supporting America’s military families, lifesaving blood, international services and health and safety services. That’s a lot of ground to cover but the Red Cross pulls it off through its 650 national chapters and 36 blood services regions. Do you know what the Red Cross is doing in your city? You should find out because every year it is estimated that over a million Red Cross volunteers respond to 67,000 disasters. This is everything from major storms to train derailments to building collapses. What’s more amazing is that they do this mostly through charitable contributions. These would be the same kind of contributions you can make with your iPoll survey cash rewards. Think of how far your donation can go!

Mobile Army Monday: Your Ticket to Cash Rewards

without comments

Going to the movies changed for me in a profound way when theaters introduced reserved seating. Here in Hollywoodland, the place where movies are made, it was the Arclight Cinemas which showed us the civilized way to watch a movie. They started by taking over that classic movie palace, The Cinerama Dome. Then they added a bunch more screens to complete the complex. Every theater there is reserved seating. The bliss of ordering a ticket to a blockbuster and wafting in five minutes before the start time and having a seat is indescribable. Okay, I’ll describe it: Awesome. Then they added caramel popcorn to the concession stand. Had I found a celluloid nirvana? Truth be told, my ultimate in movie going experience wasn’t truly complete until iPoll came along and actually paid me for going to the movies. Now I am whole.

Hottest Must Have Apps

without comments

By the time you finish reading this article there will probably be a new list of “hottest must have iPhone apps.” At last count, there were over 700,000 apps available in the iTunes app store. No matter how many gigas you have on your phone you’d only be able to download a fraction of those apps. How can you pick just a couple of dozen? I’m here to help. What follows, in no particular order, are the current (stress the word “current”) must have apps. See if you agree:

Obsessive Collectors and Their Crazy Collections

without comments

There is a thin line between avid collector and obsessive hoarder. Most often that “line” is determined by the collectors themselves. According to Mark B. McKinley, collecting is a kind of quest. “For some people collecting is a life-long pursuit that is never complete. Additional collector motivations include psychological security, filling a void in a sense of self,” he writes in the National Psychologist. Or it could be to claim a means to distinction, much as uniforms make the ‘man.’ Collections could be a means to immortality or fame.” That’s why a real obsessive collector will try to get into the record books with their Barbie collection or Star Wars collection. They might even make it onto reality television. Full disclosure: I have a small collection of lunchboxes, signed first editions and Christmas ornaments but I don’t consider myself obsessive. However, the following folks might have crossed the line:

Getting To Know The Make-A-Wish Foundation

with one comment

As concepts for charities go, the Make-A-Wish Foundation is pretty straightforward. A child who is having a rough go at life asks to get a wish fulfilled. It can be something as simple as meeting ballerinas to racing in an Indy car to just getting a puppy. This past Super Bowl, 12 Wish kids got a chance to see the game in person. The fact of the matter is that not a week goes by without a wish being granted or some terrific group of folks getting together to raise money for Make- A-Wish. Picking this foundation as an iPoll charity that matters was easy. It turns out making wishes come true is kind of easy as well especially when you’ve got so many people eager to lend a helping hand.

Weird Places To Go On A Road Trip

without comments

As vacations go, nothing beats a trip to the happiest place on earth. However, a lot can be said for hopping into a rented RV and hitting the open road to see what’s out there. Let’s get this out of the way up front: No road trip to wacky places would be complete without a stop at the world’s biggest ball of twine. In fact, one can argue that a trip across America to see the unique and the odd should begin and end at Cawker City, Kansas. That’s where, in 1953, Frank Stoeber started winding his twine down in his basement. His goal was the outdo the 12-foot-wide Johnson Twine Ball over in Darwin, Minnesota. Who knew there was such fierce competition between balls of string? Anyway, Frank was one foot away from achieving his goal before he slipped off the mortal coils. Today folks have picked up the string, so to speak, by adding their own twine to Frank’s ball. It currently stands at 40 feet wide. Don’t you want to be a part of history? That’s just one of the many delightfully bizarre roadside attractions that dot the countryside. Fasten your seatbelts. It’s going to get weird.

Getting to Know Save the Whales

without comments

“Our purpose is to educate children and adults about marine mammals, their environment and their preservation.” That’s the mission statement from Save the Whales and it’s a pretty noble statement. This organization was founded back in 1977 by 14 year-old Maris Sidenstecker. Through efforts of this organization and many like it, we’ve taken great strides towards protecting this giant creatures of the deep. Although a worldwide ban on whaling was enacted in 1986, the fight to save the whales goes on. When you see news stories about meat from endangered whales being used for dog treats then it’s clear some folks haven’t gotten the message. That’s what Save the Whales is an iPoll charity that matters and you can make a difference.
